For Love of Distress Stains!

I get that it probably is no secret to most that I love Tim Holtz and all his distress products. After all, he is all about grunge and there are many shades of brown in his color palette. For someone who has admitted to not being about bright, his products bring about a rousing 'Hallelujah Chorus' in my head!

So for this tag, I wanted to showcase one of my favorite new additions to the distress line: Distress Stains! I've been loving playing with these, but realize that there are probably a bunch of people who are wondering why you would need these when you already have all the wonderful distress ink pads? So let's look at just a few of the neat things we can do with these stains!

I'll be using peeled paint, broken china (my fave!), faded jeans, dusty concord, and picket fence (my very close second fave!).

I took each of the first four colors and just dotted them in various places on the tag. No real rhyme or reason to this, just had fun splatting the color all over the tag.

Once the entire tag was covered in color, I took out my water mister, and thoroughly wet the entire tag, letting the colors run together and blend.

I used my heat tool to dry the tag because again I am impatient. But you could just as easily let it air dry.

Here is where the gorgeous picket fence stain comes in; I used it to ink up a background stamp.

I stamped the tag with the background stamp.

Next, I got together some beautiful flowers to embellish the tag with, but the colors were pretty bright for me. One of the other great things about picket fence is how it can tone down bright colors. This works for those bright patterned papers that you want to tone down a notch, or in this case, for our flowers. So I went ahead and misted the flowers with water, and then applied some of the picket fence to them. The water helped to wick out the color.

Glue the flowers together with some glossy accents, add twine and a button, and a few matching ribbons. In no time a beautiful tag to use in a card or on a scrapbook page!

So hopefully that has helped to show off just a few of the ways to use these awesome stains. We will be at St Andrews crop on February 24th and 25th and will have stains available for sale or to give a demonstration if you'd like to see more.

Thanks everybody!
